My newest piece is one I've been working towards since I started making these sculptures. I needed to practice some techniques and sharpen a few skills before I felt ready to take this on. I've got to say I'm very pleased with the result.
Hummingbird and Trumpet Bush Copper and Cholla Cactus wood Sculpture on an Oak base. Approximately 14-1/4" high x 12-1/2" x 6-12".
The challenge in creating this piece was to make the hummingbird appear to be in flight, hovering as it feeds upon a flower. I wasn't sure if the metal piece used to crate the beak would be strong enough to support the bird's body. I was pleased to discover that it was ridged enough.
I love the way hummingbirds appears to be suspended in mid air while they feed.
This piece has additional views pictured in my Etsy and ArtFire shops
