The fairy is awake!

Waking Fairy, Copper and Cholla Cactus Wood Sculpture

I just completed my latest sculpture. Handcrafted Copper and Cholla Cactus Wood Sculpture on Oak Base; approx. 7" high x 9-1/4" wide. Hand cut and forged free-standing art.

On warm summer nights fairies like to sleep in cool, fragrant flower beds where they can gaze at the stars and moon. This fairy found a nice cholla log to curl up in, and now she is waking up to start her day. http://www.lunarskies.com/pages1/wakingfairy1.html

Hummingbird and Trumpet Bush Sculpture

My newest piece is one I've been working towards since I started making these sculptures. I needed to practice some techniques and sharpen a few skills before I felt ready to take this on. I've got to say I'm very pleased with the result.

Hummingbird and Trumpet Bush Copper and Cholla Cactus wood Sculpture on an Oak base. Approximately 14-1/4" high x 12-1/2" x 6-12".

The challenge in creating this piece was to make the hummingbird appear to be in flight, hovering as it feeds upon a flower. I wasn't sure if the metal piece used to crate the beak would be strong enough to support the bird's body. I was pleased to discover that it was ridged enough.

I love the way hummingbirds appears to be suspended in mid air while they feed.

This piece has additional views pictured in my Etsy and ArtFire shops
